This week we will be studying women micro-entrepreneurs in Africa. This is a concept where women are given small loans from Micro Financing Institutions in order to start their own small businesses. It may seem like a small concept, but it is making a great impact in rural communities across developing countries in Africa.
As you work through this chapter, think about how these women micro-entrepreneurs are changing and affecting their communities. Do you think the impact and effects are similar in developing countries outside of Africa, like Asia? How might things outside of Africa be different?
Try to do some browsing on kiva.org. I will be making a loan from our 7th grade. I would love to have your input on what micro-enterprise we should lend to. Remember, I am not asking you to create a profile or donate. Just read some profiles, look at some projects, and come back to class ready to discuss our investment opportunities.
